Game please let this season end, Athletics at Mariners

Gallagher versus Morrow. 7:10.
I would participate in this game thread but I’m suspending my participation in game threads in order to fly to New York to help the UN negotiate a peaceful unification of Cyprus.

I never know if Derek is kidding or not.
Give my love to Archbishop Makarios
Oh, he’s been dead for 31 years. Never mind.
If you’re flying to New York you can check out the classic baseball stadia before they disappear..
Thank you, Derek and Dave, for giving us a place to comiserate during this bleakest of seasons. I wouldn’t have held on to what little remains of my sanity without this community.
Well, Derek isn’t telling the truth. But that’s because it’s a cover story to mask his real mission — to negotiate the end to Iran’s military nuclear program. Disentangling the Black Sox scandal and exposing rule cheats from Gaylord Perry to K-Rod makes him uniquely qualified to analyze Iran’s (non)compliance with the IAEA regulatory regime; you’ll know he’s making progress when Ahmedinejad is overheard muttering darkly about xFIP and weighted OPS.

You’re not watching the game, you’re watching the debate, aren’t you?
There’s a game on?
There’s a debate on?
I’m watching re-runs of “Two and a Half Men”!
Anyone following the NYY-BOS game? The score is 13-4 NYY, currently in a rain delay. This is the only game where I will be a Yankee fan, based on the fact that I hope the Rays win the AL East.
You’ve got an expanded roster and it’s a meaningless game. Let’s not let Morrow suffer out there if he’s throwing a ton of pitches.
Nice.
Dear Brandon,
Please throw Cust more nasty breaking pitches like that.
Sincerely,
Mariners fans
Huh. Cairo did the Beltre self-appeal to first on his check swing.
Kind of like a little leaguer trying emulate their hero 3rd baseman.
It’s almost over…
Jeez.
Could Travis Buck look like more of a Hill-William?
Derek – you already done with those peace negotiations?
Error?
That was a line drive that snuck over Crosby’s glove.
Way to go, Ichiro!
J-LO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn, I wish we’d had a few more of those this year. Nothing like a three-run homer.
Don’t forget, the M’s organization doesn’t believe fielding-independent pitching exists. Therefore, the M’s cannot be winning this game.
Are you suggesting that Oakland’s defense has been revisting the spirit of the Matt Stairs-Jeremy Giambi Athletics in this inning?
That’s 100 Runs Scored for Ichiro!
Congratulations!
More proof of his selfishness? Will our hero have to beware of dark, lonely locker rooms?
Congratulations, again, and thank you for being what you are, Ichiro! I’m opening my second South Pacific in celebration!
what the heck happened? I get a little sidetracked by Jon Stewart, and that nice, comfy 2-0 deficit is gone.
I guess that 3-run homer thing cuts both ways.
So will the Nationals not playing a full schedule (their game from the other night was cancelled and won’t be made up) affect going for the first draft pick?
Is it based on winning percentage or number of losses?
bakomariner
Jeff Sullivan has your answer
No peace until Demetris Christofias finishes his bowl of fasolada.
J-LO X2!!!!!!!!!!!!
So with Lopez hitting his career high in home runs and since the announcers think he is playing “stellar” defense at 1B, are we to assume he’s the new 1B next year?
And thanks for the link Colm…
I am so torn…I’d love the number one pick, but I love watching the team win…argh…
Derek, I see you’re using the new definition of “suspending.” Meaning “continuing.” Bravo!
Here’s to hoping Morrow “suspends” striking people out at the rate he’s going.
Let’s all join together ask Ichiro to “suspend” scoring runs.
Seriously though, can ArmLinc suspend their old school ways and hire someone to helm this organization so we don’t have another worst-in-the-league season?
ok, that’s it.
I’m turning off Comedy Central.
That’s got to feel good for Johnson…
Giuseppe-
There’s and article on cbssportsline.com about the Ms possibly hiring Kim Ng…
Thanks bakomariner! I had been mourning the dearth of GM chatter. Not much there, but I’m sure things will ramp up as soon as the regular season wraps up.
Yeah, when I saw the headline, I freaked out, but the article is mostly speculation…but I guess it’s better than nothing…
and we get Baker’s take on it on sunday.
huh. looking back (contrary to my memory) the M’s have done pretty well on Fan Appreciation Day.
maybe my memory is colored by the fact that I have never won anything, even when there is much, much more.
so, has anyone been to Safeco during this stretch of low attendance? With only 12 people in the stadium, is it possible to move about from ones’ designated seats?
when asked that in the pregame Blowers thought maybe they might move him between 1B & 2B depending on R/L pitching matchups….
WTF? New York Vinnie?! He has a job?
(I just bought a television and this is the first game I’ve watched all season)
I got mad at them winning this game, then I saw the lineup and WOW… can’t really blame the M’s.
A couple of late comments here…
1) Before going to tonight’s game, I was watching ESPN’s coverage of the Cubs/Brewers game…and Orel called Craig Counsell “a professional hitter.” The other announcers pinned him down and made him answer the “How can you call him a professional hitter when his batting average is so low?”
Orel said, “I can call him a professional hitter because when he’s up at the plate, he does all the things you want a hitter to do up there…all except get hits.”
It almost made me miss Vidro.
2) I am one of those people who always goes to Fan Appreciation Day…and never takes home any of the much, much more. Never.
3) Did they show our first base coach’s EPIC FAIL on his attempt to throw a ball into the crowd? Hilarious…and embarrassing…and it made me feel better about…
4) …when Valbuena was fouling off a series of pitches on his way to getting the first hit of the game, I was on my CrackBerry trying to dial up USS Mariner to share some of the Bedard information with my wife–when one of the foul balls was hit DIRECTLY AT ME. (In Section 331, we rarely get foul balls hit our way.) Since I hadn’t seen the pitch or the swing, I could only react to the sound of the crowd–and I panicked and covered my face with both of my elbows…
The ball hit the protective barrier right in front of me and clattered into the 100 level.
I had nightmares of being shown endlessly on SportsCenter–like those Cowboys fans who missed while trying to high five each other…until I remembered that no one at ESPN would be paying attention to the feed of an M’s/A’s game.
Still embarrassing though…and for the rest of the game, I only checked out this site while between innings.
