Times on ownership, hiring, related topics

Ahhh, actual content. With sources!

Time-saving summary:
Larson: “I’m not trying to buy the team.”
Lincoln: “Chuck and I decide who the new GM will be.”
Armstrong: “I talk to Gillick, he’s a pal. He’s not coming here.”

What else… Yamauchi is rumored to watch games. And Larson is said to have some memorabilia.

And those observers say that Larson, a baseball fanatic said to have an extensive memorabilia collection, would have the common sense to step back and let the baseball experts run any team he had control over.

Larson showed up to a meeting with the MLB ownership committee to buy the team wearing an actual Ty Cobb jersey.

Oh, those crazy anonymous sources.

The Times expressed interest this summer in flying to Japan to interview Yamauchi and write a profile on him. But an interview request placed with the Mariners was declined.

I sure hope they wanted to send Lefton.

I too expressed interest this summer in flying to Japan to interview Yamauchi and write a profile on him. But my interview request placed with the Mariners was declined.

Is the Times really an “insider” when it comes to the truly important issues surrounding the Ms FO?

Buried towards the bottom was this nice line:

Lincoln said it’s unreasonable to expect owners to be completely hands-off when it comes to “multimillion-dollar, long-term contracts.” But he insists that, when it comes to the new GM, he and Armstrong “will give this person all the authority he needs.”

This is really where it all goes wrong. Even if they hire a really good GM, they still see their meddling as necessary, good, and reasonable.

Oh, and “all the authority he needs.” Looks like Armstrong’s the only one who got the memo on gender equality.

…Larson, a baseball fanatic said to have an extensive memorabilia collection…

I can verify that he has some great stuff, or at least he did several years ago.

He and his wife had/have a house on Capital Hill (not their primary residence) where she sponsored an appreciation event annually for a childrens group that I volunteered with. He was already an M’s owner at this time.

There were some display cabinets with dozens of collectors items. The one I specifically remember was an original of a signed Babe Ruth contract.

Now my memory is questioning itself. It was another top HOFer if not the Babe.

Lincoln: “Chuck and I decide who the new GM will be.”

Well, sure. Why not? They did such a great job of hiring the last guy.

Taking retro to a new level I suppose.
