Griffey misses cut at Pro-Am, available contract-signing

DMZ · February 15, 2009 at 10:03 am · Filed Under Mariners

Remember when people were concerned that he’d be playing golf today and it might throw off his schedule?

With a score of 207, he and Jason Bohn missed the cut. By eight strokes.

Other non-athletes who get to claim they’re better at golf than Griffey:
Greg Kinnear (201)
George Lopez (201)
Justin Timberlake (204)
Chris “You’re with me, Leather” Berman (202)
Stone Phillips (202)
Patrick Warburton (206)
Huey Lewis (200)
Rick Reilly (200) (did he keep asking other players for urine samples he could test?)
Carson Daily (200)
Bill Murray (200)
Former Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth (200)
Michael Bolton (205)
Michael Bolton!!!!!

And still playing:
Kenny G! Kenny G gets to gloat to Michael Bolton about their relative performance in a sporting event!

A few more reasons that, in my opinion, golf is not a sport bur rather a sporting event. Plus, I’m an awful golfer…

3:12pm: Jayson Stark’s latest article discusses Griffey and Atlanta. Has he wanted to play there for years? The answer to that question is yes, according to Chipper Jones. And Chipper would love to have Griffey in Atlanta as well:

“He’s a guy who can still hit,” said Chipper Jones, who would figure to find Griffey keeping him company in the middle of the lineup. “I played with him a few years ago in the [World Baseball] Classic, and he was our best hitter. He’s got a knack for being able to turn it up and prove people wrong.”

Stark writes that Griffey has moved ahead of both Garret Anderson and Nick Swisher on the Braves’ list, and points out that Junior can still hit righties very well, making him an ideal platoon candidate with Matt Diaz.

He is going to be a Mariner…. No reason to even talk about any option.

Patrick Warburton, is he Lewis or is he Clark?

    Lewis.

And the man has a voice as deep and sexy as the Pacific Ocean made of chocolate pudding.

Dang! Not only is griffey bringing down the spirits of the people who are liking Z’s moves but he also helps my fantasy golfer Jason Bohn miss the cut. 🙁

Kenny G is a UW Grad so of course he is good at any sport he tries. I have my credit card ready, and the second Griffey signs im off to get get his Jersey, which will join Buhner, The Big Sexy Richie Sexson, Felix and Ichiro!

And if it so happens that jr actually does sign with Atlanta, does Z go after Anderson for too much money, or stand pat?

Not that I actually believe the rumor. I do think it’s worth discussing however.

    Am I just being reactionary?

    Are you done?

  17. wabbles on February 15th, 2009 7:17 pm

OK, now I’m going to be up all night doing the math. Nine holes? 18? 36?

  18. themedia on February 15th, 2009 7:21 pm

Haha. Yeah. I realize I’ve moved from relevant to annoying.

Two years ago when attending the AT&T (which, by the way, is a total blast), Michael Bolton nearly nailed my wife with a shank.

  20. wabbles on February 15th, 2009 7:31 pm

Ahhhh, three rounds, so 54 holes, sooooo 3.7 strokes per hole. Not bad.

Michael Bolton nearly nailed my wife with a shank.

    Perhaps you’d like to rephrase that . . .

    HA!

  23. joser on February 16th, 2009 12:42 pm

Man, looking at that list you can’t tell if it’s intake form for some C-list celebrity rehab or the proposed cast for a particularly lame season of the Surreal Life. Though I suppose it’s kind of appropriate: Michael Bolton is to music what golf is to most other pro sports: aging, dull, and very, very white.

Wait — Michael Bolton and Kenny G at the same event? Isn’t that some kind of schlock Lite Contemporary version of “crossing the beams”? They just need Dave Matthews to show up to have the sheer concentration of bland awfulness create a schmaltz singularity instantly sucking any real flavor and sincerity out of all the real music on the planet.

“When a Man Loves a Woman” Michael Bolton… or Office Space Michael Bolton?
