There’s the Silva we know

Newer, Slimmer Carlos Silva pitches like Older, Fatter Carlos Silva
Which of these outings
5/30/08: .2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 0 HR
6/29/08: 2.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR
is most like yesterday’s:
3/21/09: 1.1 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 2 HR
So there is no chance of dumping Silva before the end of his contract.
Even funnier
Chef got cooked. Hopefully he only has X amount of terrible outings this year and that debacle counts as one of them.
I got a kick out of the in-game interview they did with him in which he stressed that they needed to start playing better “as a team” and called out the defense for committing four errors. Utterly loathsome.
Hard to defend a ball that is over the fence.
3cardmonty, it’s utterly in character, too . . .
He’s getting more economical — it only took 6 hits to give up all those runs yesterday.
The worst part about this: the nation of Venezuela doesn’t have to witness another debacle like this from Silva for another four years (if ever), while Mariner nation risks seeing one every five days for the next 3 seasons.
The best part about this: the 90+ mostly high-stress pitches Felix didn’t have to throw in the final on Monday.
So much for any hope of this national team experience bonding together the M’s Venezuelan guys. Ancient Mariner is right: this is entirely in character for Silva. As Riggleman said, he’s always the first rat off the sinking ship.
And yet there are plenty of people around here who seem to think Bedard is by far the biggest problem on the pitching staff. Talk radio brainwashing is a fearsome thing.
He left so many pitches up in the zone, it seemed like he was pitching batting practice.
So, As bad as it was watching that and feeling horrible for Felix and the other players that did perform well through the whole classic. I think the worst part of this will be the depression fit that Silva will be in for, at the very least, the first part of the season. Everything I had heard from or about him up untill this point was that he has lost all the weight and was feeling great and ready to go after a bad last year… But now he blew the goat on that one, and from that interview, he looked like he’s back off the happy waggon.
I have a feeling that he’s got an innumerable amount of terrible outings. I think he used a good amount of his good starts during the WBC, though.
Regarding Silva’s terrible performance, it’s obviously all Ichiro’s fault.
Meet the new Chef…same as the old Chef…
Not sure I care to kick a man when he’s down, even if he would. I am glad that Felix didn’t end up pitching though and won’t pitch Monday either.
Sojo is being absolutely blasted for not pitching Felix.
I can see teams not wanting their multi-million dollar investments playing that intensely so early in March, but as for teams that make the finals, I hope it is different next time. The powers of baseball got to get together and agree to let all star players for teams that make the semi-finals which is just four teams, playing one or two games, and in the case of any starting pitchers just one start, join on then. Let all the best that the USA and Venzuela have be available for those two games.
Transcript of Mariners Press Conference, July 14, 2010:
Chuck: Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you the next manager of your Seattle Mariners, Luis Sojo.
Howard: Luis is a great individual with a lot of growth potential as a manager.
Chuck: Absolutely. Man, he was the hero in that ’95 Divisional Title Playoff Game, and the way he handles pitchers reminds me of Bill Plummer.
Jack: Lookout! Cameron’s got a gun!.
