Corcoran DL’d, Vargas recalled

The M’s have placed Roy Corcoran on the 15 day DL with bad control a sprained neck and replaced him with Jason Vargas. Vargas was pitching extremely well for the Rainiers in the rotation, and has a history of getting LHBs out. It will be interesting to see how Wakamatsu uses him.

This is believable I fully 100% believe that it was a neck strain and nothing else was the reason why he was DLed.

You say Vargas was starting in Tacoma. Does he have any chance of becoming a decent back-end starter?

Yea. I’d take Vargas over RR-S long term, honestly. He’s got a below average fastball, but a decent slider and a solid change-up. Stuff wise, he’s similar to Washburn. Extreme flyball pitcher, decent enough command, misses some bats, success basically depends on not giving up the long ball.

I’ll be rooting for him, if only so he can develop a cheering section called the Vargas Girls, though apparently that is already a Seattle band name.

Corcoran really had horrible control, he looked nothing like last year when his control was his ticket to a spot on the team this year. Hope he figures it out, he’s a good guy. Finally the M’s have a lefty in the bullpen!! Lets see what Vargas can do…

    Suckitude isn’t contagious, is it?

Is that why they got him away from the other boys?

This seems about the same as when Weaver went on the DL two years ago with “tendinitis”, but somehow magically was able to keep throwing bullpen sessions the entire time he was on the DL. It’s amazing how that tendinitis heals up on its own while your still throwing but so long as you aren’t actually starting games for the team.

I suspect this decision went something like this. Corky comes into clubhouse. Wak “Hey Corcy how’s it going?”. Corcoran “Slept funny on my neck last night. No big deal. It feels fine now.” Wak: “Well we can’t be too careful about this sort of thing. We don’t want you hurting yourself.” 47 seconds later Corcoran was on the DL. 🙂

Personally, I hope Silva catches this “neck strain” bug that’s going around when RRS comes back. I like a rotation of Felix, Bedard, Wash, RRS, Jak better than the alternative five that includes Silva.

    It was probably more like
“Hey, Corky, what’s wrong with your neck?”
“Thay-res nothin’ wrong with my nay-eck.”
    “Yes there is”
    “Naw, I’m tellin–”
“Yes” — pause, significant look — “There is.”
    “Well…. day-am.”

    Suckitude isn’t contagious, is it?

Only if it’s that dangerous pandemic “Suckflu” that’s going around.

Batista’s neck looks a little sore too, doesn’t it? Or am I seeing things? (Crosses fingers.)
