Quick Notes

We were asked to put this up by someone who works for the construction company doing work near Safeco.

If you are heading to a Red Sox/ Mariners game this weekend in Seattle give yourself extra time to get to the game. There is a lot of construction near the park, between Safeco Field and Qwest Field on Royal Brougham Way and on First Avenue, south of the ballpark. Both streets are open but there are significant lane closures. It’s best to avoid Royal Brougham unless you plan to park in the Qwest Field garage. There are numerous surface parking lots north of Safeco closer to downtown that aren’t too far of a walk to the park. You can get more information at www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr519/

Also, I conducted a short interview with NESN to preview the M’s-Red Sox series.

Finally, we’ll be providing more details in the near future, but you’re going to want to be in Seattle on August 8th for our next USSM event.

Can’t wait! I haven’t gotten to attend one yet but after hearing about the last, won’t miss this one!

It’s good to see the city, or at least its contractors, are getting smart about targeted blogs and such to get the word out.

Man, August 8th… that’s right around the time I’m usually at the lake. May have to radically restructure my roster, er, schedule.

Just read the NESN interview. Dave, Dave, ERA? Really? 😉

And you missed a golden chance to talk up the fantastic glove work and hot, aggressive bat of Yuniesky Betancourt — he’s a perfect match for the BoSox. And for this one week only, he can be had a special low, low price….

Dave used ERA! Kill the traitor! 😉

Glad to see you’re getting some more spotlight! Hopefully the rookies pull off good starts against the BoSox this is baptism by fire here.

You have to know the audience. No point quoting FIP when I have two or three sentences to make a point.

Can baseball “analysts” on TV be faulted for using ERA and wins/losses when they only have a small amount of time to make their point?

As long as their point is correct, it’s totally fine. If an analyst wants to use ERA to talk about how well Zach Greinke is pitching, no one is going to care.

If he wanted to use ERA to talk about how badly Justin Verlander was pitching at the start of the season, though, that’s a problem, because the ERA was misleading.

Yeah I know I’m just teasing it takes a while to adjust to a new metric… I’m still getting used to FIP, wOBA, tRA etc. You’d have to be a crazy person on the internet to know about FIP and stuff.

And/or live in your parents’ basement.

Hey, honey, remember that honeymoon that we’re supposed to be having…

    I don’t think that’s likely to work…

Has there even been beer at an USSM event?
