Game 95, Mariners at Tigers
Washburn vs French, Rain Delay, Start Time Unknown
Washburn gets a bit of a test today, agianst a line-up with some bats that can thump lefties and Franklin Gutierrez sitting on the bench. Comerica’s dimensions will help him, but Langerhans/Balentien are no Gutierrez/Chavez, so Wash is actually going to have to pitch well today.
With the Angels playing out of their minds, the M’s have to keep winning. 6+ games back and it’s sell time.
Ichiro, RF
Branyan, 1B
Lopez, 2B
Sweeney, DH
Balentien, LF
Langerhans, CF
Johnson, C
Hannahan, 3B
Cedeno, SS

I’ve officially forgiven Armstrong for blocking the Washburn deal last year.
i guess that’s just the play that happens when a perfect game is going on. amazing.
What a special day for the White Sox, that’s the great thing about baseball more than any other sport, you can accomplish perfection on any given day.
P.S. that catch by Wise may be the best play I’ve ever seen, given the ramifications. Wow, just wow!
White Sox also move into first place. Wow. That’s fun.
What a incredible play by Wise, wow! My dad, who doesn’t even really follow sports was jumping up and down haha. Congrats Buehrle.
Awesome game by Wash today as well! Go M’s!
Awesome game by the M’s, and I just saw the Wise catch. Incredible!
People saying we have just as good a chance at the wild card, because we are fewer behind.
But it’s not, because we are fighting several teams, not two. That is why the odds are 6.7 for the division — pretty bad — but are worse for the wild card: 3.4. (site: coolstandings.com)
One thing about watching the M’s this year is you do not have to run, climb, bike or go to the gymn to get you heart rate up.
Fantastic catch to save the no hitter. Worth more like a car than a dinner to me.
Interesting note about Buehrle’s Perfecto….Same plate umpire as his no-hitter.
One of the base umps was in both games as well.
And Buehrle first no-hitter was a near-perfect game: he walked one guy, and picked him off. 27 up, 27 down.
The Mariners win, and history is made. A very good day in baseball.
Yeah, it was Sosa he walked. Apparently he bought all the fielders watches after that game, so this one is going to be even more expensive for him. He’s going to have to buy Wise an entire Swiss watch factory.
Wise, incidentally, was apparently on the bench for Atlanta when RJ threw the last perfect game in baseball history. Buehrle’s is the 18th. Which is amazing wheen you consider over 390,000 games have been played over the last ~134+ years of pro baseball.
Obama already gave Buehrle his congratulatory phonecall. The White Sox are on a boat this year.
“It was probably the best catch I’ve ever made because of the circumstances.
“It was kind of crazy, man, because when I jumped, the ball hit my glove at the same time I was hitting the wall. So I didn’t realize I had caught it until I fell down and the ball was coming out of my glove, so I reached out and grabbed it.â€
Oops, I goofed that quote. I was quoting the earlier poster who called the the best catch he’d ever seen under the circumstances; the subsequent quotes are from Wise, saying the same thing.
“Wow enjoyed Hawk calling the reporter honey after her interview…lol”
I hate the White Sox announcers. Can’t stand them. They are the worst announcers in all of pro sports. They root openly for their team on air, and make up bad things to say about the other team. Totally unprofessional. Also the you can put it on the board crap has to stop too that wears on you over time. And is very, very annoying.
