Two of the team’s three best offensive players are out (well, unless you count the hot version of Lopez). Two of the team’s best defensive players are out. The good news is Silva’s recovering well! Maybe we’ll get to see him when rosters expand! In the bullpen! Because watching Batista pitch isn’t painful enough.

Well, even though he’s missed most of the season, Silva could still wind up getting a vote or two in the Gas Can Award balloting if he winds up pitching out of the pen.
And meanwhile, RRS draws yet another tough straw of an opponent — namely, one Mr. Greinke.
Thank goodness that they didn’t “go for it” with some deadline trades.
I was going to say Bavasiesque or Woodwardesque trades, but Jack Z is incapable of being that stupid.
I’m beginning to wonder if Ichiro’s leg is broken. What is this shit?

I’m just starting to get a little concerned about Ichiro’s 200 hits. I mean, if anyone can do it, Ichiro! can, but every game he misses is going to make it that much harder…
Since they’re doing this whole Pilots tribute this weekend, I wonder why the M’s didn’t do another “Turn Back The Clock” game with those groovy old late-60’s jerseys like they did a few years back?
The Mariners are sneaking up in the West? Under ten games back?

I think Wak figures the M’s can beat the Royals with one Ichiro tied behind their back, so why rush him back and risk a real injury? He’ll be in the lineup on Monday.
And he’s got 30 games to get 16 hits. He’s been averaging better than 1.5 hits per game, so even if you think it’ll take a couple of games for him to knock the rust off, it’s still well within his reach. You don’t think he’ll hit at 1/3rd the rate he was before this little break, do you?
I’m not worried about Ichiro hitting 200; the shortened time frame just makes it a bit exciting. (see the post that one where I point out that I was making a joke.)
The only way this won’t be exciting is if he’s truly injured in some crazy play when he comes back, in which case, we’ll all weep the tears of Jesus.
That was rather unfortunate.

Come on. Everyone knows it’s not sporting for Ichiro! to be allowed to use the WHOLE season to reach 200.
Considering how long Keeler’s mark stood, if Ichiro! puts together, God forbid, 12 years in a row of 200 hits, it’s conceivable that could stand until the end of civilization.
Why is it that Olivo continues to be a thorn in the Mariners’ side years after crapping out here?
I heard we were still paying Betancourt $2 million a year. Is this true?
The top of the 5th should be the honorary “God, I wish Endy Chavez was in left” inning.
Why did Lopez bother to hit the ground like he had a chance at that ball? It was a good six feet away from him.
Ugh.
Well, THAT is definitely the game.
The only chance the M’s have now is to hit a line drive off Greinke, and get him out of the game.
Cause even Bill Kruger knows they aren’t scoring 4 against a MLB-quality pitcher.
Maybe he thought he was in Wrigley, where a ball coming off the infield cut can end up nearly anywhere.
Rather see him dive than not even try, like Yuni.

Kruger’s killing me here. He’s been simply awful, and now we’re getting a Bloomquist tongue bath for old time’s sake.
The highlight an inning ago or so, was saying the reason that Greinke didn’t have a strikeout was because the Mariners’ hitters were so gritty. I guess a Willie slurp was inevitable.
Winner of poll: Bloomquist. I wouldn’t take him back if you paid me to. Not for all the money in the world. Willie “Boom-Boom” can stay in KC. Out of those five I would take Guillen back first, but that’s all I would take back. No one else.

Ok, so I was checking on some names from the past that flamed out here in Seattle. I was going through some of our old catchers and I remembered Ben Davis (only cause that guy has some much potential). So I looked him up on Wikipedia just to see how long he had been out of baseball…but he’s currently in the Red’s organization as a PITCHER. Yes, you read that correctly, a pitcher. Seems, he bounced around after the M’s traded him went to the independent league and has since re-invented himself as a pitcher. I just thought it was weird.

A voice behind me said (as he trotted to first base) that they still weren’t sure why the Mariners traded Betancourt.
RRS got the short end of the Michael Saunders stick today.
Two balls that need to be caught fly over his head because he doesn’t gauge the ball right, or drop in front of him because he gets a horrible break on the ball.
He should have walked out of the 5th without a baserunner.
