Merry Christmas thread

DMZ · December 25, 2009 at 12:40 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Heyyyyy, if that’s your holiday of choice, all the best. If it’s not, well, hopefully you got the day off. If you celebrate with gift exchanges, we’re all the recipients of a fine front office that’s turned our troubled franchise around (and, humorously enough, turned our reputation from cynical robotic haters to mindless pom-pom and calculator carrying cheerleaders).

I will not be playing the Morlock today and keeping the machinery running, Dave’s brain will be taking the day off, and I hope none of the mods work today keeping the comments readable. If the M’s announce they’ve traded for Pujols, well, you’re going to have to wait until tomorrow.

Actually… I would probably step out of the family dinner for a minute for Pujols. No promises though.

Pujols would be a pretty awesome present.

    The Athletics will pout
    The Rangers will cry
    Angels angrily shout
    …And I’ll tell you why
    ‘Zanta-Claus’ is coming to town!

    He’s made his list
    He’s checked it thrice
    He’ll nab All-Stars
    …And at a bargain price!
    ‘Zanta-Claus’ is coming to town!

He sees that you’ve been weeping
He knows how your heart aches
He knows you’ve endured more bad than good
And he’s here to fix past mistakes!

    Ooooo….
    The Athletics will pout
    The Rangers will cry
    Angels angrily shout
    …And I’ll tell you why
    For ‘Zanta-Claus’ is coming…TO TOWN!

Much mojo to Dave, DMZ the mods and the posters. I tried to weave in an off topic “happy holiday” comment on a previous thread to no avail. You guys are tough! Holiday spending was cut back this year but I made sure to throw a little something your way. Enjoy a Chick-fil-ay and a coffee on me. Peace everybody.

All I want for Christmas is a rosterbation thread.

Go look at just about any thread from the last few weeks.

Don’t say we never got you anything!

I’d love to see some of the email you guys have gotten calling you ‘mindless pom-pom and calculator carrying cheerleaders’ and bashing Zed’s moves this offseason.

  11. kmsandrbs on December 25th, 2009 2:00 pm

Darn, Jeff’s here! I was going to use this “mod-free” thread to complain about how one-sided the authors are or post some Russian pron spam.

Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to settle for holiday greetings.

Merry Christmas everyone! Special thanks to Dave, Derek, Jay, and others who contribute so much to this site and our enjoyment of the Mariners throughout the year.

Thanks DMZ and Dave for the time, energy and funds you have put into keeping me and many others informed, involved and learning about an organization we mutually are bonded with. I hope your holidays are a wonderment and your New Year is filled with promise that enriches your life. The same goes for our fellow enthusiasts.

If there’s an announcement about Pujols, and you step out of the family dinner, I’m eating your share of the potatoes.

I bet Derek would trade potatos for Pujols. I’d throw in some leftover lamb, and the tri-tips marinating in the fridge too.

  15. Damien on December 25th, 2009 4:34 pm

Pujols! Is this some kind of teasing joke?!

  16. Jake N. on December 25th, 2009 4:36 pm

Get Berkman! We have a window! I truely hope Bavasi got Coal… Merry Christmas all.

  17. Jeff Nye on December 25th, 2009 5:13 pm

I’m busy trying to install Ubuntu, without much luck. No Pujols today!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all baseball fans in general and Mariner fans in particular!

I must admit however that I got a Yankee ornament, a Yankee flag and a collection of Yankee DVDs this year.

  19. IwearMsHats on December 25th, 2009 6:56 pm

    Gutierrez jersey from my wife…yay!

  20. henryv on December 25th, 2009 6:56 pm

Since you are NOT reporting that we haven’t gotten Pujols, I’m just going to have to assume we have.

  21. TomTuttle on December 25th, 2009 7:23 pm

I got some World Series highlight films on DVD this year!!!

Could this be an omen? 🙂

I know this, it feels good to be able to (realistically) dream again.

    Thanks, Z.

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

Here’s hoping one day SOON we get our ultimate Christmas wish: a World Series title.

Batman: Arkham Asylum, another programming book for my collection, Small World, RftG: Rebel v Imperium, and all the ski lessons I can eat. B:AA is good so far, and I’m excited about skiing.

Merry Xmas, guys. Love reading the blog. I hated baseball 9 years ago and now I can’t get enough. Numbers. They are cool. ;>

  25. Breadbaker on December 26th, 2009 12:52 am

It was such a lovely day in Seattle today. Next Christmas, may we all be exchanging “Seattle Mariners World’s Champions 2010” items. And not ones that were recovered from kids in Ghana.

  26. wabbles on December 26th, 2009 2:37 am

@ NBarnes Well, you COULD read those e-mails if this wasn’t, what did that one guy say?…”a mindless dictatorship that suppresses all free thought.” Or words to that effect. LOL
GREAT job on the Christmas carol hub!
I want to send a Merry Christmas and a big Thank You to not just the authors and the mods but also the best group of commenters I’ve run across online.
It takes everybody to make a place like this work.
Now let’s ALL get out our calculators and pom poms and cheer the M’s into the postseason in 2010!

  27. argh on December 26th, 2009 9:17 am

What a joy it is to wake up and realize that there is an entire season of Mariner baseball between me and the next Christmas. Talk about your Christmas presents.

  28. TumwaterMike on December 26th, 2009 11:30 am

I hope everyone has had a very Merry Christmas and I am looking forward to the upcoming M’s season. For the record I’m headed to spring training this year (second year in a row). I hope to hear that some of you have gone there too. It is such a great experience.

May Milton Bradley throw egg nog in your general direction!

  30. nvn8vbryce on December 26th, 2009 8:02 pm

Jeff, I know this is OT, but what kind of issues were you having with Ubuntu? I have quite a bit of experience with it…

  31. Jeff Nye on December 26th, 2009 8:08 pm

Actually, I got it working just fine, it turns out the disks weren’t burning properly the first couple of times.

Now to just figure out what the heck I’m doing with it!

  32. DMZ on December 26th, 2009 9:12 pm

    Yay Boxing Day miracle!

    Yay Boxing Day miracle!

You weren’t by chance watching that Canucks game last night, were you Derek? They hadn’t won on home ice on Boxing Day in like 36 years! 😮

File under ‘Statistics of Unusual Obscurity’.

I hadn’t realized that either until CBC’s Jim Hughson mentioned it during the game.

  36. mattlock on December 28th, 2009 1:05 am

    Huzzah, CBC!

    Ok, I’m done.

  37. scott19 on December 28th, 2009 1:13 am

See, I used to enjoy hearing Hughson call those weekend matinee Jays games on CBC as well. Every time a pitcher threw one that bounced up to the plate and Gregg Zaun scooped it up, I half-expected him to yell “Great save, Zaun!” 🙂
