Edgar Day! Festivities are scheduled for 10m after the game. What a beautiful day for the game, as the baseball gods again smile down on Seattle.

See you there.

You don’t suppose we could add some retirement ceremonies for Jamie and Masao Kida to Edgar’s while we’re at it, do you?

OK, that was a classless comment…but somehow I have a feeling I’m going to wish Jamie had hung ’em up by this time next year. It’s a shame that Edgar night is going to give Edgar zero opportunity to do anything heroic. Hopefully tomorrow will be different and Edgar will get his final aria ala Ted Williams and go out with a nice hard blue glow, and Melvin doesn’t decide to let Gil throw 200 pitches to get the CG.

Anyone else break out the box of tissues for this retirement ceremory?

Is that $100,000 that’s going to Children’s Hospital going to come out of the 2005 budget?

That was a classy ceremony. Well done, Seattle Mariners franchise. You honored Popi quite well. Thank you.

Great ceremony, but did anyone else think Boone was drunk off his ass?

Boone did seem to be slurring and the comment about the feedback was bizarre.

Could the “feedback” comment have been nerves / emotion? It’s a lot easier to play baseball in front of 45,000 than it is to speak in front of them. It did strike me as odd also.

The feedback seemed like a valid excuse to me. The delay between speaking and hearing your voice booming through the speakers in such a gigantic “room” is long – a second or two. It can be disconcerting if you’re not used to speaking with a huge sound system repeating your words back to you much later than your ear is used to hearing them (especially for someone so used to hearing himself speak, like Boone!). Unless you concentrate to block it out you can easily get thrown off: extending syllables, weird pauses, etc. National Anthem singers wear earplugs all the time to avoid exactly that.

An incredible ceremony, I’m still in shock over the “Edgar Martinez Award.” Anyone know when they’ll actually be changing the street signs on Edgar Martinez Drive? I’m hoping they’ll be up by the time I get there in about 20 minutes!

It was a great ceremony, and the crowd went from booing Selig to literally screaming with joy when he announced the award name change. What a beautiful surprise, and so very deserving. And Boonie reminded me of the turtle in “Finding Nemo” as he spoke.
