Remember me?

I was saddened to read in the comments today that “Derek and Dave do a great job” here at the good ship USS Mariner. Not because I disagree — on the contrary, I think they do a great job — but because I realized it’s been so long since I posted regularly that we probably have a number of new readers who don’t even know I’m a writer here. Sigh.

All of which is to say… I’m working on it. In another week I should be finished living out of a suitcase, as I have been the last few weeks. My work schedule is working toward regularity. And my son (who turned four months old today, incidentally), while still a full-time job and then some, doesn’t take quite as much time as he used to and even occasionally sleeps for extended periods of time.

In any event, I haven’t forgotten about you guys (and gals), the great readers who make this whole thing go. There will be an updated Big Board before the end of the year, and I’ll be at the second annual USSM Pizza Feed next month in case some of you really don’t believe I exist. If that describes you, don’t feel bad. I have to send Derek and Dave email sometimes to let them know I’m not dead.

In the meantime, I suggest we all sit back and wait for the M’s to screw up their off-season once again. But hey, how about those Sonics?

Sonics are awesome (10-2)! Take as long as you need to come back: it is off-season after all. Although I still read daily, I haven’t comment much either.

    Who are you again?

This is like that great 1970s-vintage “Saturday Night Live” sketch where host Paul Simon is greeting fans, recalling the most insipid little details of each transitory encounter … then Art Garfunkel strolls up and says, “Hey, Paul … how are you?” And Paul says: “Do I know you?”

“It’s me. Art. Garfunkel. You know … your best friend in high school. Your musical partner for twenty years. ”

    “Ummmmmm …. hmmmm …..”

“Simon and Garfunkel? “Sounds of Silence”? “Mrs. Robinson”? “Bridge Over Troubled Water”?

    “I’m sorry, Bart … this just doesn’t ring a bell …..”

Welcome back, Jason. Let us know if you need us to bring you up to date on the elections, the war or anything that might have happened outside your house since August.

We’re just glad that you didn’t break up with Dave and Derek over “creative differences” and decide to start your own solo career so you can indulge your non-commercial jazz-inflected and psuedo-classical pursuits … only to reunite with them years later for a sold-out show at the Emerald Queen Casino, opening for Styx, Foghat, Peter Frampton and Leo Sayer ….

I hope you guys don’t have disputes over writing credits, either. Or that your wives are trying to break up the group.

Can’t wait until my two month old gets in that state.

The rumor was that you were dating Yoko.

who would’ve thought the sonics would be the most exciting sports team to follow in the northwest in 2004.

yeah, it’s early, but seattle is playing like detroit was last year…

Don’t worry about the Mariners. They are about to sign Cory Koskie and Jaret Wright.

Uh, the Seahawks looked pretty good 3 weeks into the season, so don’t start planning on playoff tickets in June yet. Just sayin’.

I was under the impression Jason had signed a 3 year deal with the M’s, and as a subsequent result had seen his produciton enter a steady decline.

Glad to see it’s just been sleepless nights of spit-up holding you back.

I’m finding out the hard way how much a child throws off your normal routine.

My daughter is now seven weeks old and has decided that her new bed time is 10 am…

Other than that minor detail, being a father is fantastic.

    Take your time.

    Unforgivable.
OTOH, if he’d written, “Dave and Ron do a great job broadcasting…,” nobody would have batted an eyelash.

Jason – I too have walked in your shoes. My daughter is now a little over 2 years old, but it seems like just yesterday when I dealt with the crying and sleepless nights. And my daughter was pretty cranky too!

Anyways, I tell everyone who will listen that it’s like that old commercial for one of the branches of the military (can’t recall which one): “It’s the toughest job you’ll ever love”
