Game 94, Mariners at Blue Jays

Jeff · July 21, 2005 at 9:00 am · Filed Under Game Threads

The Mariners try to avoid the sweep by sending Joel Piñeiro out to the hill at 9:37 Pacific time. The Blue Jays counter with Josh Towers. Near no-no aside, Towers has been pretty bad over the last few months, giving up 10 hits to the Devil Rays in four innings last time out. We could see another slugfest.

I promise to minimize the wrestling references from here on out. But after seeing the last item in the P-I’s notebook, I’ve got just three (not two) words for you: “World Wrestling Foundation?” Foundation? Is that the organization that puts on Texas Death Matches for needy four-year-olds?

Checked the Urban Dictionary. Recall information request.

Wow, Dave in Palo Alto — I suspected that your knowledge of linguistics was limited to lines such as “Ich will ein auto mieten” (as to which Basil would translate and respond: “Ah, yes, we do serve meat here”). But considering your vocation, and your utterly untouchable intelligence, it doesn’t surprise me…

I think this conversation totally sums up this season. I mean, really, how many times can we blast the VORP. It’s obviously not productive, so we might as well discuss something that is productive and educates people.

I can see the veins in DMZ’s neck about now. Bigger, by far, than Macho Man Randy Savage’s…

    Crikey!

All I can figger is that he, Jeff, and Dave were at the Sox game, so he hasn’t read this yet. But I am sure he will be not-too-happy with the amazing thread drift. But for once, I can tell you that I did not start it. I fueled the fire, but I didn’t start it.

WAIT JUST ONE COLLAR PICKIN MINUTE! Doing a quick check of Mitsubishi’s products, they only call it the Pajero in Non-Spanish speaking, Non-North American countries. So it really doesn’t matter.

    Paul — huh?

  7. PositivePaul on July 21st, 2005 9:35 pm

Corco – it doesn’t matter if you started it or not. The fact that you’re fueling this fire is definitely going to contribute to the fact that when DMZ gets back:

    You are SO mod-queued

I’ll probably join you, though, as I do believe that by calling DMZ out, ribbingly, as being neurotic in the first place, I’m the one who started it: http://ussmariner.com/?p=2774#comment-48262

I might have the wrong Dave in Palo Alto. Are you involved in physics in any way shape or form?

  9. Dave in Palo Alto on July 21st, 2005 9:39 pm

Other than moving through space and time, no.

  10. David J Corcoran on July 21st, 2005 9:40 pm

Well, since I am apparently going to the mod queue, I may as well mention that the English language has been butchered in Japan too, along the lines of Nova and Pajero. Daihatsu sells (sold) a hatchback called the Daihatsu Naked Turbo. The ad slogan for the first year… “Let’s get Naked.” I kid ye not.

My bad. Mistaken identity. I know another Dave in Palo Alto who frequents this blog.

#254 Corco – better watch your back next time you are down in Meridian – one of the largest Basque populations in the US. Surely you are familiar with the Basque cultural center across from Bardenay in Boise. Best not be dissin’ the Catalan mi amigo. “Nice blog you got there, mister. Shame if anything happened to it. Things happen, you know?”

I can say I’ve been to Bar DeNay as well as Bar Gernika many, many times. Bar deNay is actually part of the cultural center. I’ve even had a Basque girlfriend. So I’m not trying to diss anybody.

  15. David J Corcoran on July 22nd, 2005 6:09 am

In fact, when that cultural center first opened and we lived in Boise, we got a phone call from the Basque people asking us if we are Basque, because apparently “Corcoran” is a Basque name, which is weird, because I always thought it was Irish. But the Basque block is one of my favorite parts of Boise, although I prefer to go up and left a block and eat at Old Chicago.

Ahhhhh, Meridian, Idaho. I actually went to high school there.

With six wins in eight games, featuring the impressive sweep in Anaheim, Mariners officials watched the team leave on this trip with hopes of scrambling back into the wild-card race.

And despite suffering a three-game sweep here, with a 6-3 boot out the Blue Jays’ door yesterday, instructions to scouts believed to be following a half-dozen teams remain the same.

Asked if the triple setbacks — rooted in lack of positive pitching by starters each day — changed the outlook, Lee Pelekoudas, the Mariners’ assistant general manager, said, “Nothing has changed.”

Thus, as general manager Bill Bavasi indicated with the club setting out for Canada on Monday, the focus in anticipated trading is still to help this year’s club.

“Our pennant hopes aren’t dead…they’re just pining for the fjords!”

Comments redubbed Bavasi using a nickname that implies he orally pleasures other men.

If you don’t remember this, that’s fine, but to accuse me of lying because you can’t keep track of what insults you’ve used on who is ridiculous. There are other places on the Internet better suited for what you seem to want, like the ESPN M’s forum, or the PI’s forums, where you would almost certainly be happier.

We’ll be fine when “Willie the Igniter” comes back.

Siempre será solamente uno Edgar, entonces es “El Edgar.”

And you thank the baseball gods that tomorrow you play in Cleveland.

Stretch face is not sexual dmz that is what his face is very long. There were no other such calls made about him.Are is he one of your favorites now that he came to the feed?Im not saying your lying you may have misunderstood what stretch face means nothing about oral sex..

  22. DMZ on July 22nd, 2005 1:09 pm

“stretch face” was not the nickname you used. I’m not going to bring it up to refresh your memory, either. Again, I can’t be held responsible for tracking the derogatory nicknames you come up with for people. If you don’t remember implying sexual things the Mariners GM engages in, that creates in me no obligation.

And again, name-calling’s frowned on here anyway, so “stretch face” might get you deleted anyway.

And again, there are other forums, like ESPN and the PI, where you would be much more comfortable with the discussions. You clearly don’t like it here, and I’m baffled as to why you continue to hang around and heap contempt on other people when that’s not what we’re about.
